When people see photos from PAL of Massachusetts’ Shop with a Cop events, they often notice the smiles, the shopping carts, and the joyful moments between kids and officers. What they don’t always see is the incredible team effort that happens long before a child ever walks through the store doors.
Locally, Boston PAL has cultivated trust and respect between police and kids for 40 years and is expanding statewide as PAL of Massachusetts. Last summer, PAL partnered with AT&T to provide 200 refurbished laptops and backpacks stuffed with school supplies to Boston students who needed them, and also supported a Special Olympics of Massachusetts basketball tournament.
In June, PAL was honored to be part of the first Inclusive Basket Battle, organized by the Special Olympics of MA and the Dorchester Blue Devils. The athletes learned some new techniques in the pre-tournament clinic and then showed their new skills in the Showcase games. It was a great day all around with music and a fantastic cookout! The BPD, the Sheriff’s Dept., and Mass State Police were all in attendance to cheer on the teams and support community policing.
Unforgettable day at Fenway in July with over 80 amazing young people from Lowell’s Skills & Drills youth baseball program and Officer’s from the Lowell Police Dept and State Troopers! ⚾️ Huge thanks to the @yawkeyfdns for making this incredible experience possible. These kids had a blast cheering on the @redsox against the Mariners! We are sure that this experience will not soon be forgotten!
